I was asked a question by a someone in Network Marketing, “How can I convince or get the people on my business team to succeed?” The simple answer that I gave was that “You Can’t!”

Instead of just giving the simple answer, I wanted to elaborate on my answer of why you can’t convince others to succeed so I shot a video explaining how you can’t help those people who don’t want to be helped. If someone is too lazy or wants everything handed to them, and they are not willing to put in the work to succeed, there is nothing you can do for them.

However, there are three things that I feel are your responsibility as a leader that actually can assist people in succeeding. These are very important actions that all successful business owners do.

4 Steps To A Better You

Do you want to become a better leader? Are you looking to build your business to new heights? In order to do that, it requires that you make some changes! After all, if you want things to change in your business, it requires that you make some changes too, you can’t remain the same and expect anything to change. These changes are not earth shattering, and they are not impossible. In fact, the changes that you have to make can be done by anyone.

In this video post, I share with you 4 Steps To A Better You. In reality, each of these steps could be an hour long video, but I wanted to give you the basic concepts of the 4 steps to allow you to determine which one(s) that you may need to focus on. Everybody has different strengths and weaknesses, so while watching and listening to this video, there may be some things that you have nailed and other things that you need to work on.

Don’t feel bad if there are things that you need to improve on because we are ALL a work in progress. I try to improve and learn more everyday regardless of how big my business gets. You are either growing or dying, and it is my hope that this video gives you some internal perspective to help you develop into a better leader, business person, husband, wife, mother, or father. Inspire People With Your Actions

If you want a long lasting and successful business, there is an important element that you must do for your business team. You must inspire people with your actions and do what you want your team to do! If you want your business team to sponsor more reps, then you sponsor more reps. If you want your business team to sell more products or make more money, then you sell more products and make more money! Do whatever it is that you are recommending or telling your team to do. Lead from the front!

You see, inspiring people is much different than simply motivating them. Motivation lasts for a few hours, days, or weeks. You go to your company’s live event or a leader comes into your town and does a great training or dream building session and you are motivated. That motivation, however, is short lived. After a few days, the motivation dwindles like an hour glass, slowly seeping away. Inspiration on the other hand, can be life lasting. Inspiring people is empowering and getting them to understand that they are capable of the success that they want. Inspiring people is helping them to see that if that couple can do it, then they can too!

Do you see how important it is to lead from the front and do the very actions that you are asking members of your team to do? When I went to college I hated to read. In fact, I always challenged myself to read as little as possible and still get good grades; thankfully it worked! When my wife and I got into our Network Marketing business, our mentor suggested that we get on a recommended reading program. My initial response was that I didn’t like to read, to which he responded, “You need to change your thought process in order to be successful.” Well, since I wanted to be successful and live how I saw my mentors living, I humbled myself and began the reading program. I have listed 10 books that have greatly impacted my life and feel that every entrepreneur should read. In fact, these books will benefit anyone who wants to be more, do more, and make a positive impact beyond just making money. Don’t get me wrong, if you follow the principles in each of these books, the money will come! All of the books will help anyone including the new graduate, seasoned CEO, and everyone else in between. 

1. The Magic of Thinking Big, David J Schwartz, PhD

In this book, Dr. Schwartz advises us to set our goals high and have a positive thought pattern in order to achieve them. His book is basically a step-by-step guide on how to achieve what you want by changing your thought patterns and thought habits. I learned in one chapter why people fail and why people succeed! 

2. Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill

What can I say? This is a classic! A compilation of Napoleon’s diligent research on some of the most successful individuals in the 1930’s who achieved great financial wealth. He breaks down common characteristics and thought processes that all of the individuals had.

3. Bringing Out the Best in People, Alan Loy McGinnis

In his book, Alan breaks down 12 rules that a leader should follow to motivate team members around him. In addition, it also teaches the reader how to lead and bring out the best in others, hence the title!

4. The Master Key to Riches, Napoleon Hill

Another classic! Napoleon provides a blueprint of a success formula for anyone desiring great success and wealth.

5. How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie

This book is full of golden nuggets. Among them, the reader will learn how to: make friends easily, increase their earning power, make them a better salesman, avoid conflicts and arguments, get them out of mental ruts, and much, much more!

6. How I Raised Myself From Failure to Success in Selling, Frank Bettger

Frank breaks down his personal success methods and principles that helped him become a leading salesman. Ironically, this book is not all about selling. You will have to read it to find out!

7. The Slight Edge, Jeff Olson

I really enjoyed this book. Jeff explains to the reader how the difference between winning and losing, success and no success is a very slight edge. His simple explanation, that it is just as easy to do the things that you should do in order to succeed as it is not to, really impacted me. I think it will impact you as well.

8. The Greatest Miracle in the World, Og Mandino

Written in story form about a publisher who befriends a wise old man and, as a result of their mysterious relationship, receives from him his laws for finding happiness and success.

9. Go For No!, Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

A fictional story where a salesman learns how to break through the single most common barrier to all success! A very simple and entertaining read that will have you excited to hear NO!

10. Hung By the Tongue, Francis P. Martin

This small book packs a lot of punch. What I learned in this book is how powerful my words and thoughts are. That what I say is exactly what I get! This book literally helped me change the way that I speak.

5 things wealthy people do that most others do not

In the world, 2% of the population makes an enormous amount of money. In addition to the 2%, there is also a large percentage of the population that is very wealthy and, in many cases, financially independent. In this article I will reveal some of the things that separate the 2%’s from the rest of the population and how they are able to enjoy the kind of lifestyle and success that most people only wish they could live. My wife and I have been blessed to learn these principles from some of our own mentors who have used them to develop great wealth and lifestyle and I am excited to pass them on to you.

Here are the 5 things…

1. They educate themselves: The 2%’s continue to learn and work on their craft. The education that I am referring to is not going to a college campus to learn from a professor that has never done what they are teaching, but instead reading success self-help books and learning from other successful individuals through association. They learn how to work with people and develop great people skills. Many successful people will point to the fact that they learned how to lead people from books, audios, and seminars. They understand that they must continue to grow and learn. After all, you are either growing or dying; but never stagnant. Continued education is a key for these people.

2. They take risks: They are willing to take chances even when others think that their ideas or dreams are crazy. They observe the masses and do the opposite. 2%’s understand that in order to achieve great things, they have to be willing to go against the grain and not simply follow everybody else because it is the safe and popular thing to do. They move from failure to failure in order to help realize their goals and dreams; never quitting. They know that with each failure they will learn something that they needed to in order to move on towards their ultimate destination of success. These individuals literally fail their way to success!

3. They have clear and defined goals: If you don’t have a goal written down, you are like a rudderless ship being tossed about by the waves of the ocean. These folks know where they want to go and have a clear and concise way to get there. Once they have their goals written down, they then come up with a game plan and execute it.

4. They take action: Probably one of the most telling things that the 2%’s do is take action. This is vital as nothing is ever accomplished without taking action. You can have the best people skills, read thousands of books, have goals written down, but if you don’t take action nothing will happen. These people do not wait for everything to be perfect before they take action because there is never a perfect time to do anything. They boldly step out on faith and begin the journey. That is when things start to happen.

5. They believe in themselves: 2%’s believe in themselves and have a great, positive attitude. They see themselves having already accomplished their goals and visions before they actually do! They know that the only thing that can stop them from achieving is themselves. These individuals understand that they are far from perfect and they focus instead on their strengths and skills rather than just on their weaknesses. Because they believe in themselves so much, it is only a matter of time before they succeed!

The Entrepreneur’s Creed

The Importance of Having a Mentor

Mentor-ship is a developmental relationship between a person who has experience in a particular subject and someone who is looking to gain more insight and knowledge of that topic. It is a personal relationship between these two people that make it the key to success.

Do you have a mentor? Are you wondering what the big deal is about having a mentor or “life-coach” as I have heard it termed?

The benefits of having a mentor are many. But one of the most obvious benefits is the ability to learn what to do and what not to do from somebody that has experience in the field that you are looking to pursue. Having a mentor is like walking through a mine field. The best way to navigate through a mine field is to follow the footsteps. The footsteps will lead you to the other side whereas if the footsteps end, well, you can figure out the rest of the story!

A mentor of mine stated that “you don’t know what you don’t know.” That is the purpose of a mentor; to help guide you through to your goals and help you avoid making mistakes that they have made or learned from. They will help to guide you in decision making, what action steps to take, and give you general insight and points of view that you have not thought of. Mentors can also inspire you by giving positive and encouraging words and believing in you when others don’t.

So how do you find a mentor? The best way that I have seen is to find someone in your field of endeavor who has been successful to some degree and ask them if you can get some time with them (i.e.- take them to lunch or dinner or grab a cup of coffee). That’s right, you just need to ask them if they will mentor you. Most people would be flattered to be asked to be your mentor. But you have to mean it.

It is important that you don’t waste the time of your mentor either. They are providing time and knowledge to you. In exchange, you should make every effort to carry out the advice that they are giving you. If your mentor suggests you do X,Y,Z and you come back to them and did not do any of those things because you just got too busy, you are telling your mentor that you don’t care enough to listen to their advice. They will probably not want to mentor you any longer. Be respectful of their time and don’t take them for granted! It will pay you great dividends for you not to!

I have had the wonderful opportunity to be mentored by some of the most successful, dynamic leaders in this country. They have not only made a lot of money, but they have enriched the lives of thousands of other entrepreneurs from all over the country through their knowledge and wisdom. It is very comforting to know that I don’t have to face any obstacles or challenges alone and the advise that I get is for my benefit as well as theirs. When I win they win; a true win/win situation. Within the same program, I have also had the opportunity to mentor hundreds of other entrepreneurs and help to mentor them towards their goals and dreams of having a home based business of their own and make money.

Who Are You Listening To?

Watch any TV commercial or pick up any newspaper or periodical and you will be flooded with information and opinions on what you should or should not do. The question is, who do you listen to?

It is unfortunate that a large amount of people will listen to, and take advice from, people who don’t have their best interest in mind. Sometimes, it is actually from close friends and loved ones who are trying to “protect’ them from making a mistake or making a bad decision.

Having been in business for a number of years, I have witnessed potential entrepreneurs get SNIOP’d (susceptible to the negative influences of other people). They listened to somebody’s opinion about whether or not they should go into business for themselves or not.

The reality of the situation, is that these people listened to individuals who are have not obtained any type of personal or financial success. These advice givers don’t understand that in order to be in business for yourself and make money, it does require an element of risk- a calculated risk. What the potential entrepreneurs did not take into consideration was the ‘fruit on the tree’ that those people giving opinions had.

How can you expect to learn something from someone that has never done what they are giving their advice about? I have never studied or performed a brain surgery. How crazy would it be for someone to take advice or opinions from me on brain surgery? I have no clue on how to even begin a surgery let alone a brain surgery! Yet that is what so many people do when it comes to their finances and making money. They take opinions from people that are in debt, unhappy, and working in a career going nowhere.

The next time that you are going to take somebody’s opinion that is not going to encourage or support you, see where they are at in life. At your job, have you ever looked at the person who has been with the company for 10+ years and observed how happy they are, what kind of car they drive, where they live, etc? If you like their lifestyle, then continue to follow in their footsteps. If however you don’t, then understand that if you keep following their same path, you will end up where they are.

I have been fortunate to have been able to have a set of mentors that are in life where I want to be. They have given me and my family the ability to have someone to model and follow a script for success. These individuals have been able to put up the warning signs of life and enable us to sidestep any potential potholes that would be around the bend.
