Building a large Network Marketing business is about finding and sponsoring leaders who are ready and serious about building a business of their own. Think about the last time that someone pitched you about their business. Did they even take the time to really get to know you and find out what you wanted? I have been pitched both on and offline. They told me that they were expanding and that they were looking for leaders and I would be a good fit! Yet, they didn’t even know me!! Pitching your business is a very poor way of promoting your business opportunity or product. People don’t like to be pitched and they usually never take the person doing the pitching very seriously. Pitching your business also makes you look desperate and unattractive to a leader who may want to build a Network Marketing business. If you have made this mistake, don’t feel bad. I used to pitch my business before I understood value based sponsoring. Our business grew a little bit until my wife and I started to provide value to others. Since then, our business has exploded! We learned that the proper and successful way to promote our business is through value.

10 Books Every Entrepreneur Should Read

When I went to college I hated to read. In fact, I always challenged myself to read as little as possible and still get good grades; thankfully it worked! When my wife and I got into our Network Marketing business, our mentor suggested that we get on a recommended reading program. My initial response was that I didn’t like to read, to which he responded, “You need to change your thought process in order to be successful.” Well, since I wanted to be successful and live how I saw my mentors living, I humbled myself and began the reading program. I have listed 10 books that have greatly impacted my life and feel that every entrepreneur should read. In fact, these books will benefit anyone who wants to be more, do more, and make a positive impact beyond just making money. Don’t get me wrong, if you follow the principles in each of these books, the money will come! All of the books will help anyone including the new graduate, seasoned CEO, and everyone else in between. 

1. The Magic of Thinking Big, David J Schwartz, PhD

In this book, Dr. Schwartz advises us to set our goals high and have a positive thought pattern in order to achieve them. His book is basically a step-by-step guide on how to achieve what you want by changing your thought patterns and thought habits. I learned in one chapter why people fail and why people succeed! 

2. Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill

What can I say? This is a classic! A compilation of Napoleon’s diligent research on some of the most successful individuals in the 1930’s who achieved great financial wealth. He breaks down common characteristics and thought processes that all of the individuals had.

3. Bringing Out the Best in People, Alan Loy McGinnis

In his book, Alan breaks down 12 rules that a leader should follow to motivate team members around him. In addition, it also teaches the reader how to lead and bring out the best in others, hence the title!

4. The Master Key to Riches, Napoleon Hill

Another classic! Napoleon provides a blueprint of a success formula for anyone desiring great success and wealth.

5. How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie

This book is full of golden nuggets. Among them, the reader will learn how to: make friends easily, increase their earning power, make them a better salesman, avoid conflicts and arguments, get them out of mental ruts, and much, much more!

6. How I Raised Myself From Failure to Success in Selling, Frank Bettger

Frank breaks down his personal success methods and principles that helped him become a leading salesman. Ironically, this book is not all about selling. You will have to read it to find out!

7. The Slight Edge, Jeff Olson

I really enjoyed this book. Jeff explains to the reader how the difference between winning and losing, success and no success is a very slight edge. His simple explanation, that it is just as easy to do the things that you should do in order to succeed as it is not to, really impacted me. I think it will impact you as well.

8. The Greatest Miracle in the World, Og Mandino

Written in story form about a publisher who befriends a wise old man and, as a result of their mysterious relationship, receives from him his laws for finding happiness and success.

9. Go For No!, Richard Fenton & Andrea Waltz

A fictional story where a salesman learns how to break through the single most common barrier to all success! A very simple and entertaining read that will have you excited to hear NO!

10. Hung By the Tongue, Francis P. Martin

This small book packs a lot of punch. What I learned in this book is how powerful my words and thoughts are. That what I say is exactly what I get! This book literally helped me change the way that I speak.

Millennial Entrepreneur

4 Things All Millennials Should Be Doing

I had the pleasure of connecting with a young 20 year old entrepreneur the other night. He had initially reached out to me on Twitter and we ended up chatting on Skype for about an hour. Looking back, there are a few things that this young man did that all millennials, entrepreneurs, or career minded people should try to emulate.

1. He Networks: As I said before, this young man reached out to me to ask me a few questions and make sure he was on track. That takes a tremendous amount of courage. He understands how powerful networking is and is always looking for ways to learn more from others. Have you had someone that you wanted to speak with but were hesitant? Go ahead and reach out to them, you never know how the relationship you can build and where it can lead!

2. He was prepared: One of the first things that I noticed when we began our conversation was that he was prepared. He had prepared some written questions that he wanted to ask me and, more importantly, he had a pad and pen to take notes. Taking notes is a bit of a lost art form. Don’t just think that you will remember everything in your head. Write it down so that you can review it and refer back to it later. If you write it down, you will remember and understand the information much longer than if you simply try to retrieve it from memory. By being prepared, he understood that my time was valuable. If you ask for someone’s time, respect it. He did just that. I could tell that he had put some thought into the questions that he was asking and it was much appreciated.

3. He has a vision: This young entrepreneur has a vision of what he wants to accomplish and has spent time thinking it through. In addition, he did what so many fail to do, and that is he has taken action. He knows what he needs to improve on as well as the kind of people that he needs to attract to make his vision of his future a reality. He knows where he is going!

4. He has a burning desire: During the conversation, we talked about how many of his friends in college want him to go out and party, etc. You know, the typical college night?! He told me that he very rarely takes them up on his offer because he barely has the time to build his business and do his college school work let alone go out and party. He wants his dreams to become a reality and he understands that time is a very limited and hot commodity. How much time do we waste on things or events that will not move us closer to our goals?

After speaking with this young man, I was very excited for him. It is great to see a young Millennial pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit and not feel like he has to fit in with everyone else. I am looking forward to keeping in contact with him, and if he keeps up his great attitude with a willingness to learn along with his burning desire, he will most definitely become a great success!

Who Are You Listening To?

Watch any TV commercial or pick up any newspaper or periodical and you will be flooded with information and opinions on what you should or should not do. The question is, who do you listen to?

It is unfortunate that a large amount of people will listen to, and take advice from, people who don’t have their best interest in mind. Sometimes, it is actually from close friends and loved ones who are trying to “protect’ them from making a mistake or making a bad decision.

Having been in business for a number of years, I have witnessed potential entrepreneurs get SNIOP’d (susceptible to the negative influences of other people). They listened to somebody’s opinion about whether or not they should go into business for themselves or not.

The reality of the situation, is that these people listened to individuals who are have not obtained any type of personal or financial success. These advice givers don’t understand that in order to be in business for yourself and make money, it does require an element of risk- a calculated risk. What the potential entrepreneurs did not take into consideration was the ‘fruit on the tree’ that those people giving opinions had.

How can you expect to learn something from someone that has never done what they are giving their advice about? I have never studied or performed a brain surgery. How crazy would it be for someone to take advice or opinions from me on brain surgery? I have no clue on how to even begin a surgery let alone a brain surgery! Yet that is what so many people do when it comes to their finances and making money. They take opinions from people that are in debt, unhappy, and working in a career going nowhere.

The next time that you are going to take somebody’s opinion that is not going to encourage or support you, see where they are at in life. At your job, have you ever looked at the person who has been with the company for 10+ years and observed how happy they are, what kind of car they drive, where they live, etc? If you like their lifestyle, then continue to follow in their footsteps. If however you don’t, then understand that if you keep following their same path, you will end up where they are.

I have been fortunate to have been able to have a set of mentors that are in life where I want to be. They have given me and my family the ability to have someone to model and follow a script for success. These individuals have been able to put up the warning signs of life and enable us to sidestep any potential potholes that would be around the bend.

Do you have Multiple Streams of Income?

You have heard about it all too frequently on your local news of jobs being cut and the prospect of the economy taking a turn for the better a slim one. Many people are simply holding on for the ride or sticking their heads in the sand and hoping that everything gets better.

But why put your fate into the hands of political officials to make decisions on the economy for you and your family? Why not develop another way to make income outside and away from your current profession or career?

Having multiple streams of income allows you to not only generate more income to your bottom line, but it also helps you prepare for a rainy day. God forbid you or your significant other get laid off from your job, what happens then? Do you have a game plan? I would hope that you are not one of those individuals that think “it couldn’t happen to me.” As I’m sure you are well aware, it can.

So how can you create a secondary source of income when you are topped out on time and may even be working two jobs? What I have found as a great way to make money is to leverage my time with a business system where you can make money even when you are not there. In other words, the income is not solely based on your efforts!

There are many ways to make additional income and I am not professing that there is only one way to do that. I am however, urging you to take some serious thought into having multiple streams of income. You will be thankful you did in the years to come.

Two major benefits to starting an online marketing business

Have you had thoughts of owning your own business? Have you thought about what it would be like to be your own boss and plan your schedule instead of somebody else planning it? If you have said yes to both of these questions, you are not alone. In fact, in an online article by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, it was discovered that more than 70 percent of American adults would prefer to be an entrepreneur rather than work for someone else. With that being said, I would like to point out two major benefits of starting an online business and how it can enable you to become an entrepreneur.

The first benefit is TIME! When I speak with people about business ownership, one of the main reasons why they shy away from starting their own business is due to a perceived lack of time. If you fall into this category, I have great news for you. Consider this:

Most working adults will average 40 hr. work weeks (8 hr. days). This does not include getting the kids ready for school, putting on your best weekday clothes, and fighting “rush hour” traffic to and from work. When you add all of that time up, it drastically increases the amount of hours that they spend working at a job. It’s no wonder that people do not feel that they can start their own business outside of their jobs.

The beauty of online marketing businesses is that you can learn how to leverage your time. What I mean by that is you can literally duplicate yourself over and over. As an example, let’s just say that you want your own business and you are willing to find 1 hr per day in the work week to dedicate to your business- that is 5 hrs. per week. If you have a coach or mentor that can help you and dedicate as much time and effort that you are willing to invest, now you have two people each putting in 5 hrs. per week. Your 5 hrs has now been duplicated to 10 hrs. that your business can make money on. It gets better!! When you start duplicating yourself and opening up other business outlets, you can drastically increase the hours that your business can make money on. So if you open up 6 other outlets who each put 5 hrs. per week into their business, your coach/mentor’s 5 hrs, and your 5 hrs. you get a grand total of 40 hrs. per week that your business is growing but you have only put in 5 hrs.! That is like showing up on Monday and working half a day and then going home for the rest of the week and still get paid for your 40 hrs.

The second benefit is EXPONENTIAL INCOME! With a duplicatable business like I explained above, you have the opportunity to make money exponentially.  You may ask “how is that?” Well let’s look at how an employee gets paid- either hourly or salary. In my example, let’s just say that you make $30 per hr. If you work 8 hr. days that would equal $240 per day. If you were to take a duplicatable business like McDonald’s, let’s say that each McDonald’s store made only $1 per day but has 40,000 stores all over the world, McDonald’s would make $40,000 per day. Who would make more money? I want you to really understand this concept. The fact is, we all have 24 hrs. per day to make money no matter how much we make per hour it ends after 24 hrs. and then we have to start back at zero. This is known as the glass ceiling. An online marketing business (like a McDonald’s model) breaks through that glass ceiling and allows you to make as much money as you want!

In closing, having both time and money equals lifestyle. That is what most people are chasing but they are in the wrong vehicle. Building an online marketing business can put you in a sports vehicle to get you to your desired lifestyle.
